Before Taking A Measurement

1. Sit quietly for about 10 minutes. This will allow your body to return to its normal, resting state.

2. Take your blood pressure in a comfortable environment -- not too cold, not too hot as temperature may affect your measurement.

3. Make sure you haven't just consumed any beverages containing caffeine, such as coffee, non-herbal tea or cola. Also, don't smoke just before taking a measurement. It's probably a good idea to wait about 30-45 minutes.

4. Plug the cuff tube into the monitor before taking a measurement.

While Taking A Measurement

1. Sit still and quietly while measuring. Talking or moving may elevate measurements.

2. For consistency, it's a good idea to measure your blood pressure using the same arm and at about the same time each day. If possible, we suggest using your left arm.

3. When taking multiple measurements right after each other, make sure you wait at least 3 minutes in between. Waiting allows your blood vessels to return to their normal state.

4. Sit with your legs uncrossed and your feet flat on the floor. Do not touch the cuff or monitor at any time during the measurement. Relax.

Applying The Cuff

1. Before your put the cuff on your arm make certain that you are not wearing a thick coat or sweater.

2. If you are wearing a long sleeved shirt, roll it up, but make sure that the sleeve is not constricting circulation to your arm.
3. Wrap the cuff around your upper arm (usually the left) so it fits securely but not too tight. You should be able to place 2 fingers in between the cuff and your arm.
4. The cuff should be positioned on your biceps, just above your elbow. Directions are printed directly on the cuff so you know the exact location it should be applied to your arm.

5. Lay your arm on a table with your palm facing upwards. The inflation tube should line up with your arm. Do not allow the tube to become kinked or wrapped around anything; it should lie flat down the center of your arm.

Taking A Blood Pressure Measurement

1. Once the cuff is properly positioned and you are seated with your feet flat on the floor you are ready to take a measurement.

2. Press the start/stop button.

3. Manually inflate the monitor by quickly squeezing the inflation bulb several times. You should inflate the monitor to approximately 50mmHg higher than your estimated systolic pressure. For example, if your blood pressure is usually 120/80 you should inflate the monitor to about 170.
| Do not ever inflate the monitor higher than 240mmHg.

4. You will feel the cuff getting tighter aournd your arm - this is normal. Do not inflate the monitor to the point of discomfort. If this occurs, the cuff is secured too tightly or your have inflated the monitor too high. Press on/off and rewrap the cuff leaving more room between your arm and the cuff. Make sure to never inflate the monitor higher than 240mmHg.
5. Numbers will appear on the digital display. This is the normal process the monitor goes through to determine your blood pressure. Don't be alarmed if the numbers quickly change or go higher than you believe your blood pressure to be.
6. When your measurement is complete the monitor will deflate automatically, releasing the air pressure in the cuff.
7. The entire measurement process should take less than a minute. Once the measurement is complete, the display will flash between your blood pressure and pulse reading.
Note: Your blood pressure may constantly change during the course of a day. High or low readings do not necessarily mean your monitor is malfunctioning or that you are ill. It is important to speak with your doctor to learn what your normal blood pressure is and also if you experience related abnormal measurements.
Eight Measurement Memory

When you take a measurement, the monitor automatically stores it in memory space number one. As you continue to take measurements, the monitor will push the previous measurement back one space. In other words, the value in space one will always be the most recent blood pressure measurement taken. Your monitor will store up to 8 measurements.
