  • Has a fever and is less than six months old
  • Has a fever higher than 102°F(39°C) with a change in behaviour (e.g. Irritability, lethargy)

  • Is very sleepy, lethargic or unresponsive. Fever may make children want to sleep more, but children should waken easily, be able to talk with others, and seem alert.
  • Seems confused or delirious
  • Has problems breathing
  • Has a convulsion
  • Has a fever for more than three days
  • Has a fever and a rash
  • Has a stiff neck
  • Has purple or red spots anywhere on the skin
  • Has any other signs of illness that worry you.

Children who have not had a fever for 24 hours may go to a child care facility or school if they are feeling well enough to take part in the activities.
